Significance of Rahu in Vedic Astrology
According to Vedic astrology, Rahu is the most malefic planet among all the nine planets. As per legends, After Samudra Manthan, at the time of distributing Amrit or nectar of immortality between Gods and demons, Lord Vishnu tricked demons. He poured Amrit into the cups of Gods but changed Amrit into the water at the turn of demons. This act was caught by a demon called “Swarbhanu”. He disguised himself as God and drank Amrit by sitting in the middle of God. On discovering it, Lord Vishnu enraged and cut the head of Swarbhanu. As the demon has drunk the nectar of immortality, he didn’t die but become immortal. The head of the demon is then called “Rahu” and the rest of the body called “Ketu”.
In astrology, both Rahu and Ketu are considered as malefic or bad planets. They are called the North Node of the Moon and South Node of the Moon respectively. As these planets shadow the Sun and cause eclipses, they are termed as “Shadow Planets” by astrologers.
Effects of Rahu and Rahu Kaal
Rahu has adverse effects on the human mind. It creates confusion and causes the person to make false assumptions about the surroundings and inner abilities. They used to doubt their capabilities and lose their self-confidence. Rahu influences the thinking abilities of the natives and tempts them to make wrong decisions.
